Fear - Guised Control & a Feeble Defense

,

FEAR today is the greatest foe that many people face. It paralyses the mind and isolates us affectively making us victims of human circumstances and imaginary or real phobias. Fear is the leading cause of mental illness in our nation and is an unprecedented reason for people to never uncover God's Plan for their lives.

The National Institute of Mental Health last year gives these statistics:
~ Percent of things feared that will never take place = 60 %
~ Percent of things feared that happened in the past and can’t be changed = 30 %
~ Percent of things feared that are considered to be insignificant issues = 90 %
~ Percent of things feared in relation to health that will not happen = 88 %
~ Number of Americans who have a diagnosed phobia = 6.3 Million

The NIMH also lists the top 10 fears in America today as follows:
1 Fear of public speaking – Glossophobia ~ 74 %

Fear is really worship. It is negative worship. Fear is worship because it exalts the phobia above God and His Promises. Fear reigns in the absence of Perfect Love. When Israel was afraid of Goliath and hid not confronting him that was a form of worship not knowing that God loved Israel and wanted to give them the victory over the giant.

When we live in fear it is only the guised worship of self. It is the poor attempt to control the uncontrollable. We fear because we lose control, power to direct and protect instead of surrendering to our loving Savior. Fear of losing control results in perfectionism - that drive for certainty in a uncertain changing world. Anxiety is the disposition of the fear of losing control. Depression & Loneliness are twins of their mother Anxiety. Both born from a long pregnancy of Fear. If Fear had a father it would be Guilt.

To know and bask in God's love is to be free from torturing fear. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear:because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." - 1 John 4:18

For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. - Isaiah 41:13
